I discovered something new today: Popped quinoa. At the grocery store I was looking through all the cereals when I came across a box of popped quinoa cereal. Crazy, right? So, I did a little bit more research and discovered that it isn’t hard to make it! It’s a vegan, gluten free extra crunch that you can eat on its own or add to a recipe like these homemade granola bars.
Here is a fool-proof way to pop quinoa:
First heat a deep saucepan. It has to be really hot. Test out the pan by adding a few pieces of quinoa to the pot and see if they pop. If they do, the pan is hot enough.
Add 1-2 tablespoons of dry quinoa to the pan and lift the pan 1-2 inches over the flame. Once they start to pop, shake/swirl the pot continuously. You won’t need a lid because the quinoa won’t pop out of the pan if it is deep enough. Continue until the popping sounds stops.
Season any way you like. You could add salt, pepper, chili powder, paprika, etc., or you can add it to cookies, bars, or eat straight from the bowl! Just be careful, they stick to your fingers if you put your hand in the bowl! Delish!
